Hollywood Menu Design

For my Hollywood Menu design, I decided to go with a basic outline that is very readable but one that is also interesting. On the cover, I pasted the given logo along with other pictures I found, such as one of the Hollywood Walk of Fame stars and a picture of appetizing sandwiches that I pasted into a circle and made the stroke point of the outside large enough so it would be very defined. I also included the picture of my featured celebrity, Reese Witherspoon, on the cover, advertising the restaurant's new honorary sandwich.

For the rest of the menu, I incorporated some new skills that we have learned in class from this section. Using the Paragraph Styles tool, I centered each category heading, changed the font, and created a blue background behind the text with a stroke point of 11. I was also able to use Paragraph Styles for the category descriptions, the sandwich names, and the sandwich description. In addition, I used the Tabs section under Paragraph Styles to create dotted leaders for each sandwich and create a right-aligned tab so that the price was on the right-hand side after the dotted leader. I used just three different fonts so that there was some variety, but was not random and confusing. Overall, my goal was to make a unique design that was still practical and easy to read.

Humane Society Project

February March April

For my calendar project, I used the InDesign Page Master and inserted a blank chart for the calendar on it, so that each page would include a template of a calendar and I would not have to individually insert one on each page. The only things I had to change on each calendar were the dates, the colors, and the names of the months. I adjusted the size of the calendar so that I could easily fit a photo and three coupons in the space around it. The only other aspect in creating the calendar was the adjustment of the cell sizes to squares so that they looked more like calendar blocks.

I went online in order to find the pictures of the animals, and decided to use kittens, puppies, and rabbits because these are all animals that the humane society works with. I put these pictures in a fairly large size at the top because I wanted to make it look like an actual calendar with the picture. My final additions to the project were creating three symmetrical rectangles for the coupons and adding text for three local businesses, and I also included an oval with the Ellipse Tool with text that says "Did You Know?" in order to display my fun fact. This project made me very aware of the importance of spacing and symmetry.
